The research I conducted for my thesis revealed that ALL the mothers who had their newborns permanently removed to provide a family for infertile couples had either attempted suicide , suffered suicidal ideation, put themselves in high risk situations, self harmed, got into abusive relationships or knew of mothers who had successfully suicided. A high proportion never went on to have further children. When many adoptees finally gained the right to meet their mothers many were disappointed to find ‭they had died early.
